BIG FINDS DOWNUNDER

2024 In early January we packed up all of our kit and travelled downunder to help visualise the Bounty Trough expedition off New Zealand as Ocean Census continued their quest to find new and unrecorded deep sea species. It was a long one! 4 weeks on land and 3 weeks at sea.

100 NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED

2024 Video East created daily social media content and made short films highlighting Ocean Census' scientists incredible work. We filmed night and day to record the discovery of over 100 new marine species –including fish, shrimp and corals. Our coverage was shown by news outlets wordlwide including the BBC, CNN, ABC, CBS,TVNZ, New York Times, New Scientist

OCEAN CENSUS LAUNCH

2023 Press coverage at the Royal Institute in London for the official Ocean Census launch with The Nippon Foundation.

It was also the launch of a film that we shot and edited with presenter and former BBC Science Editor, David Shukman.

NEKTON MALDIVES MISSION

2022 DoP for 7 weeks helping visualise and supply cameras and drones for the first deep-sea exploration of the Indian Ocean around the Maldives by international and Maldivian scientists.

INTO THE DEEP

2022 What a privilege it was to take part in this Expedition. I found myself 500 metres down in the Indian Ocean in a submersible with sharks and rays gliding by and add to that on return to the surface I was officially an Aquanaut.

MUSICIANS FOR PEACE

2022 Multi-camera, live music concert coverage streaming to YouTube. A concert film was edited from the rushes and shown at the Riverside Cinema.

A WING AND A PRAYER

2021 We are thrilled that our film A Wing and a Prayer shot during lockdown made the finals of the Suffolk Shorts Film Festival in the Best East Anglian Film category.

2021 Had the pleasure of working on an Indian film set in London. Drone filming for a murder mystery movie featuring one of Bollywood's leading actors.

2021 Underwater drone filming in Greece. We were searching for a WW2 aircraft wreck 70 metres down in the Aegean Sea. But that's another story!

Nearer the surface we managed to capture some great footage of marine life.

2021 Working with some very talented young film-makers as a DOP and kit supplier for the BFI Academy, we aimed to help the students realise and execute their aspirations for an ambitious drama short film 'The Getaway'

2021 We were hired to shoot a commercial for a logistics company that has just taken delivery of a brand new fleet of electric vans.

2021 We had a great premiere of the new behind-the-scenes documentary film about the Suffolk 'Movie' Trenches at the Riverside Cinema, Woodbridge. Covid socially distanced of course.

A film by Tim Curtis. Produced by Neil McGlone, written by Jonathan Ruffle, narrated by Claiire Vousden. Featuring Taff Gillingham, Khaki Devil and The Great War Huts.

ART AT THE ABBEY

2020 Filming and recording the latest work of glass artist Arabella Marshall.

'A Wing and a Prayer' is a large, colourful contemporary glass “window” fused into the ancient ruined chapel which stands in the grasslands of RSPB Minsmere. Thanks to Natural England and RSPB Minsmere for their support with filming at this sensitive, natural habitat.

FILMING & EDITING LIVE VIA ZOOM

2020 Had the pleasure of working with some very talented young film-makers for the BFI Academy. The shoot and post were done remotely via Zoom allowing the students to view camera angles live and then later make decisions in real time in the edit. Live broadcast with our ATEM Mini Pro. Delivered by Creative Nation.

2020 We recently took delivery of the ATEM Mini-Pro, an advanced multi-camera, multi-source, live broadcast solution. The switcher makes it easy to create professional multi-camera productions for live streaming to YouTube, Vimeo or a website of your choice.

2020 Filming and editing a special message and a musical insert with Carolyn Sampson and Joe Middleton for this year's Gramophone Classical Music Awards.

2020 Commissioned by The Lost in Translation Circus and the City Council to film aerials of their socialy-distanced big top in the centre of beautiful Norwich.

CALIFORNIA DREAMING

2020 A great drone shoot in a most beautiful part of the country. Up on the north Suffolk coast filming with Tim Kahane for a new, upcoming TV series. Will keep you posted. Could be California. Almost.

YELLOW SUBMARINE

2020 With an upcoming documentary in mind we took the plunge and purchased an UNDERWATER drone.

The technology is not quite there yet for high-end broadcast filming, but as with aerial drones we like to be ahead of the game. (It still has 4K, 100 metres depth)

LOGISTICS IN LOCKDOWN

2020 Great to hear from our friends again at OMA Logistics in Ghana. Deep into Covid lockdown OMA asked us to post produce a promotional film. It was completely edited and signed off remotely. Big thanks to Big Fish Media for their voice over service.

HOWZAT!

2020 English Willow plant, manage and supply willow tree wood to make cricket bats. We were hired to film aerials for their promo at one of their plantations in Suffolk. Turned out to be a very nice film by DOP Ben Clowes

DRONE SHOOT AT THE TIDE MILL

2020 The Tide Mill in Woodbridge gets a new paint job. Only one of a handful of tide mills in the world still producing flour on a regular basis and among the first mills in the country, working on the same site for well over 800 years.

THE BIG CONVERSATION

2019 / 2020 Video East were commissioned by Real Vision, a leading name in global finance video content, to set up a UK hub.

We helped find the premises, oversaw the studio set design and supplied all of the lighting, kit , camera crews and editing to help produce one of their successful, ongoing weekly shows.

LAST DAYS OF THE LIGHTHOUSE

2020 Before the crazy world of COVID-19 the Orfordness Lighthouse was about to be demolished. Ravaged by the elements it may soon fall into the sea. We were asked to get the some drone images to remember it by.

UPDATE The lighthouse has now been demolished.

SONY FX9 with 6K sensor

2020 Video East adds the Sony FX9 to it's kit offering. The long awaited successor to the legendary FS7, it brings some fantastic upgrades with it. The FX9 has a Full Frame 6K dual native ISO sensor, VENICE colour science, upgraded auto-focus capabilities, built in genlock and timecode and much more.

DRONE SHOOT for AJN STEELSTOCK

2020 At any given time, Suffolk's AJN Steelstock will be holding well over 30,000 tonnes of steel ready to be delivered to your site by our fleet of 60 lorries, wherever you are in the country.

BOOK ON THE DEBEN

2019 We are still very proud of our film Life on the Deben. The film has now morphed into a book, co-authored by Nick Cottam and Tim Curtis and was a Waterstones (Ipswich) best seller over Christmas.

GO WITH THE FLOW

2020 We were commissioned by The Woodbridge Riverside Trust to create time-lapsed video and drone footage of the tidal changes on the river Deben for an education programme.

APRIL 2019 Video East was commissioned to make a short promotional film for one of West African's leading shipping and logistics companies, OMA Group.

APRIL 2019 Video East was commissioned by the Cogency to make a series of social media adverts for the reopening of the stunning Painted Hall in Greenwich. We utilised a 30ft Jib arm courtesy of Suffolk based Jibshot. Filming 4K with Sony FS7 with Zeiss CP2 glass. Post-production completed by Video East.

POPPY TOUR ARCHIVE

APRIL 2019 We have just completed a 4 year archive project for 14-18 Now WW1 Centenary Arts Commissions and the Imperial War Museum of Britain's Poppies Tour. We enjoyed using Primaries Exporter to export timelines and easily archive the rushes. Sadly PE seems to have been discontinued.

STANLEY'S WAR CINEMA

APRIL 2019 Our fillm about Suffolk people during WW1 has enjoyed a succesful regional cinema tour with over 2000 bums on seats. Released in November 2018 and shot in France and Suffolk this drama-documentary tells the remarkable story of farm hand, Stanley Banyard and his exploits during the Great War.

2019 JANUARY Stanley's War filmmaker Tim Curtis was privileged to be part of the team to hand over £14,000 to two worthy local charities. The Peninsula Poppy Project which commissioned Stanley's War, was set up by Fanny Jacob to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the WW1 Armistice. As well as raising funds the project engaged people in art, film and remembrance across Suffolk.

SUTTON HOO's new visitor centre and experience

JANUARY 2019 Video East supplied the National Trust Sutton Hoo with drone shots and dramatic Anglo-Saxon re-enactor footage filmed on the river Deben, for their new revamped films.

Dazzle Ship Learning & Engagement films

DECEMBER 2018 Video East supplied crew and editing for a series of learning and engagement films about the influences of WW1 on contemporary art. Filmed at Chelsea Arts College the project involved over 1000 students.

STANLEY'S WAR - DRAMA DOCUMENTARY

2018 Stanley’s War, produced and directed by Tim Curtis dramatises stories of love and sacrifice, following the lives of Suffolk people during WW1. The film recounts the true life-changing experiences at the Western Front of Stanley Banyard, a farm hand from Suffolk, and how he saved the lives of his comrades. Cinema release.

BRITAIN'S POPPIES. WW1 REMEMBERED

2018 ITV Special documentary telling personal stories of Britain at war, told by the families who bought a poppy from the Tower of London. We shot and supplied all of the location footage from the Poppies Tour.

THE POPPIES TOUR

2015- 2018 14-18 NOW toured the iconic poppy sculptures Wave and Weeping Window by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper, during the First World War centenary between 2015 and 2018.

The sculptures visited 19 locations around the UK and were seen by over 4.6 million people. Weeping Window and Wave have now become part of the Imperial War Museums’ collection.

Video East provided the official production crew for the tour including film crew, drone and editing.
